Behind the scenes with corporate event planners Conference Boy and Incentive Girl

Simon Cowell at the Science Museum

When I was invited to Eventia's summer networking at the Science Museum last night, I hadn't anticipated that hordes of small children would be making their way through South Ken, in the opposite direction to me.

It was a relief to escape into the museum's large hall and the waiting Turkish Delight mocktails, wine and nibbles, particularly having spent the day avoiding floods at my Hammersmith HQ.

Also circulating the crowds of events industry types was the soon-to-depart Duncan Reid, who told me that he has been undertaking extensive planning for a new haircut to fit in with his new defence job. He wouldn't let me in on exactly what his coiffeur would be producing, but has promised to send pics as soon as the masterpiece is complete. Can't wait. Is this style number 16?

Meanwhile, Gallowglass business development director Matt Storey is clearly harbouring ambitions to be the next Simon Cowell, after ripping apart one of the contestants in the latest heat of The Next Big Thing.

Cummerbund-clad Jack Foster looked close to tears as Matt S tore into his performance. Brutal, but that's showbiz. Or corporate events

Luckily belly dancer Aleksandra Savina fared better and won over the judges with her act, joining the Fab Sisters to go through to the next heat.

The only downside to the evening was that the effervescent Izania Downie was not in attendance, due to a bad back. Apparently it struck during Summer Eventia, ouch.

Get well soon Izania!
