CSR Tip of the Week

July 2009 - Posts

Energy use is a major contributor to CO2 at an event; venues use a lot of energy and contribute to an events CO2 level. When searching for a venue to host your event, look for a venue that already has a sustainability policy to show that they are aware of the issues and making efforts accordingly. This is one element to help you work towards your BS 8901 event sustainability standard.

Stakeholder engagement is a key element to working successfully in a sustainable way. This is also an important element when working towards BS 8901 (The British Standard for a sustainable event management system).

Through engaging with your stakeholders you will be able to develop an awareness of their understanding of sustainability, being able to see if they are currently working with sustainability in mind. At the same time you will also be able to make them aware of the ways in which you are working more sustainably. Stakeholder engagement is an opportunity to learn from each other and develop a sustainable future.

Engage with your stakeholders via emails, telephone calls or face to face and address any potential questions with regards to your sustainability objectives

Stakeholder engagement was discussed in detail during workshops at the free 'Understanding BS 8901' event held at Olympia London on the 24th June.
