CSR Tip of the Week

November 2009 - Posts

A week long meeting starting next Monday will see industry experts come together to start the process of making the BS8901 'Specification for a Sustainable Management System, with Guidance for Use.' into an international standard.

Fiona Pelham, Chair of ISO/PC 250, explains, “The future standard will provide a framework which event planners, venues and other members of the event supply chain can use to implement, maintain and improve sustainability within their way of working.”

You will have the chance to be involved in this process when the standard is open for public comment, watch this space for information on how and where you can feedback.

10:10 is an ambitious project to unite every sector of British society behind one simple idea: working together to cut the UK’s carbon emissions by 10% by 2010.

Cutting 10% in one year is a bold target, but for most of us it’s an achievable one, and is in line with what scientists say we need over the next 18 months. We now know for certain that unless we act quickly to reduce our use of dirty fossil fuels, humanity will face terrible problems in the years to come. It’s now or never for climate change.

It’s easy to feel powerless in the face of a huge problem like climate change, but by uniting everyone behind immediate, effective and achievable action, 10:10 enables all of us to make a meaningful difference.

10:10 is the perfect opportunity to discover what’s possible when we work together.

The carbon challenge fund was created by the North West Regional Development Agency to promote the use of environmental technologies. The project aims to help the North West Region to adapt and mitigate against the impacts of climate change.

The Carbon Challenge Fund supports the deployment of low carbon technologies by minimising the risk of investing in these technologies by demonstrating and monitoring their effectiveness, providing an incentive for adoption and demonstrating leadership.

The types of technologies that can be funded are:

  • Energy efficiency
  • Renewable (including small scale) and low carbon energy generation and distribution for heat, power and cooling
  • Low carbon design and construction techniques
  • Low carbon transport technologies and processes
  • Climate change adaptation

The Fund is being managed by Envirolink North West.

Any Business within North West England can apply for this funding.
